Claire’s work is thrown, coiled or slip-cast and can be a mixture of the three. It is then refined and burnished with a smooth piece of glass and partially glazed before the first electric kiln firing. The second firing fuses the gold lustre onto the glaze. The pieces are then ready for the pit- firing, when they are covered with sawdust which slowly burns around them during the night. It is a long process and one pot takes several weeks to complete.
