  • William Calcott Knell was a London marine painter.
  • He is renowned for his feel for the sea and influences on it by natures’s elements.
  • William was obviously influenced in his early paintings by Dutch tradition. Later on his style became looser and his seas more transparent. There are few contemporaries who can match his ability to represent stormy conditions at sea.
  • He exhibited his works from 1848 to 1870 at the royal Academy, the British Institution and Suffolf Street in London
