Jonathan Armigel-Wade (British b. 1960)The New Arrival Oil on board Signed (lower right); further signed, titled and numbered 1930 (verso)20 x 29cm (7¾ x 11¼ in.)
Particularly noted for his ‘curvispective’ style of oil painting, often of interiors, hunting/sporting scenes, coastal and harbour views, quiet rural scenes and distorted perspectives. His paintings are often described as ‘little excursions for the mind’. The artist’s titles for his paintings are important and considered as part of a whole. He has also completed many paintings of military subjects as a result of activities as an ‘unofficial war artist’.
He is particularly influenced by work of Claude Lorrain, Turner, Gainsborough, Stanley Spencer and Carel Weight.
